Sins and Joycie’s List of 100 Things To Do When We’re Back In (or on the way back to) Singapore!
Comments in ITALIC BOLD are by me! for those pointers that specifically apply only to joycie, i’ve added my own beside it!
joyceinhyderabad:
- Get a little high on the plane with ‘free’ alcohol! And talk about all the things we want to do in Singapore.
- Before the plane touches down, take in all the greenery and high-rised buildings across our tiny island.
- D-F-S.
- Speed walk to Changi Airport’s T1 staff canteen without looking like loonies and tuck into the glorious food that are all-things-Singapore. (Hor Fun, Hokkien Mee, Popiah (!!!!), Bak Chor Mee, YTF etc etc) OMGOMGOMG
- Take out our laptops after the amazing meal(s) and connect to Wireless.sg and marvel at how fast the internet is. OMGOMGOMG
- Head to T3’s NTUC and get excited at the wide variety of items in the supermarket!
- Go to the produce section and feel the strawberries, oranges, kiwis, grapes, peaches, broccoli…
- Buy a packet of Wang Wang Rice Crackers, open it and finish half the packet before making our way to the cashier to make payment.OH.MY.WANG WANG!
- Ride on an escalator.
- Take the MRT train home. Try not to be shocked at the lack of a conductor, tap that EZ-link card. Hello Tampines! Hello Eunos! Hello crazy crowds at City Hall! Look, traffic lights! Look, street lamps!
- Go swimming and tan away the ugly t-shirt arm lines and tofu-white legs.
- Tuck into Chinatown porridge at People’s Park Complex Food Centre.
- Smile and hug the first taxi uncle, whose taxi you board, because they go by the meter and don’t stop the taxi half way to ask you for more money and proceed to argue in a foreign language until you cough up the extra money.
- Wear shorts/dress up, carry a tote bag, and wear heels (maybe not?).
- Head to Mustafa with Ade as our Little India guide (since she stays there) and play compare and contrast the items that we can find in Singapore and India. Probably will gape and gawk at the jacked-up prices. I want to see whether they have cheap muesli like back here!
- Check out Ion and other new malls along Orchard Road belt and relish the cool air-con, and not having to deal with half-past-six, half-opened ‘malls’ (i.e. Cine Planet) and redundant security checks where random Indian ladies have to touch you up and down. (You feelin’ me?!) Grope and fondle more like it, in between giggles.
- Picnic at Botanical Gardens, or maybe SMU campus green?! WHAT? SMU?
- Popiah party with Frujch people. I can chop up the turnips, very finely.
- Make fluffy pancakes and have a friendly competition with HX on whose pancakes rocks more. OBVIOUSLY MINE. PLUS mine is healthier! flour, milk, sugar, baking powder. yours got oodles of condensed milk!
- Visit the National Museum and take silly photos.
- Borrow books from the community library!

- Popeye’s fries. Enough said. I want their popeye biscuit!
- Guitar-hero till fingers hurt but not till extend that thumb gets sprained.
- Sweat it out at SMU gym, with lockers, relatively new machines, piped adrenaline pumping music, air-con and heated showers.
- Start to cook from our parents and take note of their recipes that are so unique to their generation, and if not for our desire to learn the ropes, we would see a decline in Asian culinary skills. (Joyce’s Memo- From dad: penang laksa, sweet&sour pork, assam fish curry, popiah, ngoh hiang, chicken rice, steamed egg, stir-fried bittergourd+ egg, steamed pomfret, peanut soup, beancurd skin soup etc. Miss mum’s weekend grocery shopping trips and loot hauled from Giant, Cold Storage, NTUC, wholesale centre, veg farms at Old Chua Chu Kang Road.) - Feel safe when driving, or being a passenger in a car. (This point does not cover incidences when crazy taxi drivers in a rush or reckless motorcyclists that just cut into your lanes without signalling or without checking their side-mirrors. Hello, this is not India! Cannot do such things, will get fined by Traffic Police.)
- Appreciate the fact that we actually have lanes painted on the roads and no huge carrier truck will come rumbling down, missing you by mere inches!

- Make a list of what we miss (or don’t miss) about India.

- Take a nice, WARM shower with good water pressure and not having to deal with water cuts. No more rushing out of the house with unshampoo-ed hair to turn on the water tap. (1 for PUB)
- Appreciate the fact that ice-cream or ice does not defrost in the freezer. (i.e. no more power-cuts, 2 for PUB.)
- Moan for the loss of candle-light dinners at home (NOT! Again another 1 for PUB! PUB rocks… just have to do something about the high electricity tariffs„, being a Singaporean for you… always complaining about little things ;p)

I WANT TO THREAD MY EYEBROWS TOO.
-glassmosaic, who has OCD about stray eyebrow hairs, plucks and trims her eyebrows everyday, thus denies eyebrow threader of the chance to do anything with her brows at all.
